Polymer Waterproofing Membranes

PVC Waterproofing Membrane: The main raw material is PVC resin, with chemical additives such as plasticizers incorporated during production through a multi-step process. The abundant availability of raw materials for PVC waterproofing membrane enables its mass production. Due to the good compatibility of PVC waterproofing materials, stabilizers can be added to achieve anti-aging properties, thereby enhancing the performance of the waterproofing membrane. PVC waterproofing membrane is welded using hot air, offering good weldability, and the construction process is safe and environmentally friendly. Additionally, PVC waterproofing membrane exhibits other excellent properties, such as strong impermeability, good low-temperature flexibility, and resistance to chemical corrosion. Owing to its outstanding performance, PVC waterproofing membrane is widely used in various fields, including basement waterproofing and metal roof waterproofing. However, PVC waterproofing membrane also has certain drawbacks, such as poor thermal stability and the tendency to release toxic gases at high temperatures. Furthermore, the addition of plasticizers has both advantages and disadvantages. On one hand, it improves the product's adhesion and reduces the melt viscosity of the material; on the other hand, it enhances the product's aging resistance.


TPO Waterproofing Membrane: The main body is made of thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) synthetic resin, with antioxidants and other additives incorporated during production. Researchers have achieved breakthroughs in molecular structure design, developing a TPO waterproofing membrane based on block copolymerization. In addition to possessing the advantages of the aforementioned PVC membrane, TPO waterproofing membrane offers superior high-temperature and low-temperature stability. Moreover, TPO waterproofing membrane contains no plasticizers, exhibits minimal shrinkage deformation, is recyclable, easy to repair and maintain, and features fast, environmentally friendly construction. Due to its numerous prominent advantages, TPO waterproofing membrane is used in roof waterproofing for various projects. However, TPO material is flammable, consisting only of carbon and hydrogen elements, with a low ignition point and high heat release during combustion. To prevent roof fires during use, flame retardants must be added during production. TPO waterproofing membrane is primarily used for roof waterproofing, where it is constantly exposed to high-temperature environments, making thermal aging resistance a strict performance indicator.


EPDM Waterproofing Membrane: The main body is made of ethylene-propylene-diene monomer (EPDM) rubber, with various additives incorporated through multiple production processes. Due to the polymeric and relatively stable structure of EPDM rubber, this membrane maintains excellent waterproofing effectiveness over long-term use. Moreover, when prolonged sunlight exposure raises the surface temperature of the membrane, its dimensional changes are minimal. It also offers good elongation, allowing it to adapt to building structural deformations and movements, and quickly adjusts to temperature changes, with a wide operating temperature range. Owing to its excellent performance, EPDM waterproofing membrane is not only used in traditional building roofs but also applied in the single-layer panel roof waterproofing of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics Speed Skating Oval.


Non-Asphalt-Based Polymer (HDPE) Self-Adhesive Film Waterproofing Membrane: HDPE prepared by the low-pressure solution method not only exhibits excellent mechanical properties but is also resistant to acid and alkali corrosion, with stable chemical properties. Additionally, it is environmentally friendly, non-toxic, and easy to process and shape, making it suitable as a raw material for waterproofing membranes. The HDPE waterproofing membrane consists of a high-density polyethylene homogeneous sheet as the main body, with a self-adhesive material layered on the surface, resulting in a waterproofing membrane suitable for bonding with building materials. It can react with cement slurry and solidify on the concrete surface, forming a gapless waterproof layer that enhances waterproofing reliability. Therefore, HDPE waterproofing membranes are commonly seen in applications such as subway tunnels, bridge deck waterproofing, and other pre-applied waterproofing construction fields in China.
