Production process and environmental characteristics of the linerless label coating machine

Production process

Preparation of raw materials: the first step is to prepare a good label material, such as various types of paper, plastic film, etc., these materials need to have good flexibility and surface flatness to ensure that the coating effect. At the same time, to prepare the appropriate adhesive, adhesive performance directly affects the label paste effect and durability, according to the use of the label scene and the need to choose the appropriate characteristics of the adhesive, such as for food packaging labels need to be selected in line with the food safety standards of the adhesive. In addition, you also need to prepare a good peelable release film, release film in the production process to play a temporary bearing adhesive and easy to label the role of subsequent peeling. 

Unwinding: The prepared label material and the release film are installed on the unwinding device. The unwinding device is equipped with a high-precision tension control system to ensure that the material always maintains a stable tension during the unwinding process. If the tension is not stable, the label material may be wrinkled or stretched, affecting the subsequent coating and lamination quality. As the machine starts up, the label material and release film are slowly unwound into the coating area. 

Coating process: This is the core link, after the label material enters the coating area, the specially designed coating head starts to work. Common coating methods include gravure coating and anilox coating. Gravure coating through the gravure roller on the net hole quantitative transfer of adhesive, can achieve high-precision coating, suitable for the adhesive thickness requirements of strict label production; anilox roller coating is the use of anilox rollers on the surface of the tiny grooves to carry the adhesive and uniformly coated on the label material, its coating speed, high production efficiency. The coating head accurately controls the amount of coating according to preset parameters, ensuring that the adhesive is evenly covered on the back of the label material. 

Drying or curing: After coating, if water-based adhesive is used, hot air drying is usually adopted. Through the hot air circulation system, the temperature and air volume will be controlled in the appropriate range, so that the moisture in the adhesive evaporates quickly to achieve drying. In the case of UV-cured adhesives, the use of ultraviolet radiation, so that the photoinitiator in the adhesive decomposition of free radicals, triggering the polymerisation reaction, rapid curing of adhesives. This step directly affects the production efficiency and quality of the label, drying or curing insufficient will lead to insufficient label adhesion or adhesive residue. 

Laminating operation: The dried or cured label material is laminated with the release film at the laminating device. Laminating device through precise control of pressure, so that the label material and the release film close fit, while avoiding excessive pressure on the label damage. After lamination, the semi-finished labels enter the winding device. 

Winding and slitting: the winding device will close the label material in accordance with certain roll diameter requirements for winding. Winding process should also maintain a stable tension to prevent the label in the winding process loose or wrinkled. After the completion of the winding, according to the actual use of demand, through the slitting equipment will be large rolls of labels cut into different specifications of the small rolls, in order to subsequent use. 

Environmentally Friendly

Reduced resource consumption: the biggest environmental advantage of the bottomless label coater is to reduce the use of base paper. Traditional label production relies on a large number of backing paper, and the production of backing paper needs to consume a lot of forest resources as well as water resources, energy and so on. The emergence of bottomless paper labels, from the source to reduce the demand for paper, greatly reducing deforestation, helping to protect the ecological environment. For example, an enterprise that uses millions of labels annually can reduce the use of backing paper by several tonnes per year after adopting bottomless paper labels, which is equivalent to protecting a certain number of trees. 

Reduce waste generation: bottomless paper label structure is relatively simple, in the recycling processing link has more advantages. Traditional labels due to the base paper and label material composite, recycling processing is more difficult, often requiring complex separation process. And bottomless paper labels after use, whether it is label material or release film, it is easier to sort and recycle. This reduces the accumulation of waste in landfills or incineration plants, reduces pollution to the environment, is in line with the development concept of circular economy, and makes a positive contribution to sustainable development. 

Environmentally friendly production process: The drying or curing methods used in the production process of the bottomless label coater also have environmentally friendly characteristics. For example, the use of UV curing adhesives, the curing process does not need to be heated, only through ultraviolet radiation can be quickly cured, compared with the traditional heating and drying methods, greatly reducing energy consumption. At the same time, the UV curing process does not produce volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which reduces air pollution, creates a healthier production environment for companies and meets stringent environmental regulations.
