Although adhesive is only a supporting material in building decoration, it does not mean that it is not important. In the actual decoration, a large number of materials (such as wallpaper, various floors, ceramics, stone decorative materials, etc.) are laid by pasting method, so the selection of adhesive directly affects the firmness of laying and the decorative effect of facing. When choosing adhesive, we should first understand its basic technical properties, which are the basic conditions to ensure the bonding degree.

The technical properties of the adhesive are as follows: (1) Technicality

It refers to the performance of adhesive in bonding operation, including the preparation, gluing, airing and curing conditions of adhesive, and it is also an evaluation of the difficulty of bonding operation. As mentioned above, multi-component adhesives should be prepared on site, chemical reactive adhesives have temperature requirements for curing reaction, and solvent-based adhesives need to be left to dry for a while after gluing. Sometimes, it can't be bonded until the solvent volatilizes, etc. These problems must be clear when choosing the adhesive to ensure the bonding effect.

(2) Bond strength

It is a performance index to ensure the firmness of bonding. If the bonding strength is not enough, the adherend will fall off. If the wall is decorated, the adherend will fall off, which will not only affect the decoration quality, but also cause personal injury accidents.

(3) Stability

Refers to the degree of strength change of bonded specimens after immersion in a specified medium at a certain temperature for a period of time. Such as water resistance and oil resistance. It is often expressed by measured strength or by strength retention rate. For the adhesive to bond the decorative materials on the ground, exterior wall or bathroom and toilet, it should have good stability.

(4) Durability (or aging resistance)

With the increase of service time, the performance of the adhesive layer will gradually age until it loses its adhesive strength, which is called durability. At present, the adhesive with the largest dosage is an organic polymer material mainly composed of synthetic resin or synthetic rubber, which is easy to age and deteriorate during use, so that the adhesive layer loses its effectiveness and falls off.

(5) Temperature resistance

Temperature resistance refers to the change of adhesive performance within the specified temperature range. Including heat resistance (under high temperature environment), cold resistance (under low temperature environment) and high and low temperature deformation resistance. These temperature changes will also change the composition of the adhesive, thus reducing the adhesive strength until the adhesive layer falls off.

(6) Weather resistance

For the adhesive exposed to the outdoor, it can resist the weather, such as rain, sunshine, snow and water, which is called weather resistance. The weather resistance also reflects the aging resistance of the adhesive layer under the long-term action of natural conditions. It is also because these natural factors will lead to the deterioration of the performance of the adhesive layer and affect the adhesive strength.

(7), chemical resistance

Most synthetic resin adhesives and some natural resin adhesives will undergo different changes such as dissolution, expansion, aging or corrosion under the action of chemical media, thus causing the decline of bonding strength.

(8), other performance

In addition to the above-mentioned properties (that is, the influence of various environmental conditions, such as temperature, humidity, sunlight, chemical media, etc., on the bonding strength of the adhesive layer, which comprehensively reflects the use effect of the adhesive layer), other properties of the adhesive should be considered when selecting the adhesive, such as whether there is irritating smell, toxicity, color of the adhesive, storage stability, storage period and price. For indoor adhesives, there should be no irritating smell and toxicity. If odorous adhesives must be selected, they should be used after the adhesive layer is completely dried. Choose a similar color or white adhesive according to the color of the adhered object, so as to avoid the color of the adhesive polluting the veneer and affecting the decorative effect of the veneer. In addition, we should also pay attention to the storage period of adhesives, because the actual bonding performance (especially the bonding strength of adhesives) will be greatly reduced after the storage period, thus affecting the bonding effect.
